Welcome to this issue of one24worship - Because worship is a daily lifestyle, one 24-hour day at a time, not just a weekly event.
The one24worship Newsletter is a weekly offering of inspiration, ideas, and insights... 1-2-4: one verse, two quotes, and four observations at a time.
Since I was preaching this past weekend, I didn’t take down any notes in my Sermon Notes Journal on Sunday like usual.
So, instead, I looked back through some of my old Sermon Notes Journals and came across an entry from the very last sermon I ever heard my late friend, Walker Moore preach last year in 2023, just 3 months before he passed away. What a treasure!
In fact, I’ve discovered that’s one of the most valuable things about taking notes during sermons at church, conferences and events. Not only does it help focus my attention during the actual delivery at that moment, it also allows me to be freshly replenished as I look back, even after several years.
I began systematically taking sermon notes almost 40 years ago. If you have a similar practice, perhaps other one24worship readers might be encouraged to hear how you take notes, what tools you use, or what else might be of interest regarding taking Sermon Notes.
Please leave a comment below. I do read each comment and try to respond as quickly as I can.
Enjoy!
David

One Verse
“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:50 ESV
Two Quotes
John R. W. Stott
“The worship of God is always a response to the Word of God. Scripture wonderfully directs and enriches our worship.” John Stott

Ralph P. Martin
“The distinctive genius of corporate worship is the two-beat rhythm of revelation and response. God speaks; we answer. God acts; we accept and give; God gives; we receive.” Ralph P. Martin

Four Observations
The first Observation this week comes from The National Day of Prayer Task Force. The NDoP is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May inviting people to pray for the nation. The National Day of Prayer takes place next Thursday, May 2, 2024. dg

As, I think about the words, In Christ I Can, I remember some of the amazing miracles that Jesus did. He walked on water, healed the sick, raised the dead, gave sight to the blind. He was raised from death on the 3rd day, after being crucified. Yet, knowing that all these things are true, I still worry over things that I have to face. The Lord has told us not to worry, don't borrow troubles from yesterday or tomorrow, live each day as it happens.
In Christ I Can
Because He holds me with His hand.
When I start to worry and fear grips my throat,
I know in my heart that Jesus is in the boat.
So, I take my worries to Him in prayer.
My worries are left behind, I leave them in His care.
Taking notes as someone preaches gives me a deeper meaning of what is being said. As you wrote, it is good to look back through the weeks and years of note taking. Sometimes, I have missed some of the most important points that I have written down. The notes that I have written, take on a new meaning from what I first thought. The Scripture does the same thing. It is according to where I am, in my relationship with God, when I read the Scripture.
