Welcome to this issue of one24worship - Because worship is a daily lifestyle, one 24-hour day at a time, not just a weekly event.
The one24worship Newsletter is a weekly offering of inspiration, ideas, and insights... 1-2-4: one verse, two quotes, and four observations at a time.
At the beginning of this week, my pastor and I attended a gathering where another local pastor was preaching. As he closed his message, he recounted the story of Jimmy Carter interviewing with Admiral Hyman Rickover about joining the nuclear submarine program.
During the interview, the admiral asked Jimmy this question about his time at the Naval Academy – “Did you always do your best?” Carter responded honestly, “No, sir, I didn’t always do my best.” Admiral Rickover then followed up with this question – “Why not?”
The admiral’s two questions were and are thought-provoking and motivating. Still, the older I get, the more conscious I’ve become of this:
(1) It is true of me, too, that I have not always done my best.
(2) Equally true is that, even when I’ve done my best, Bible passages like Isaiah 64:6 and Romans 3:23 remind me that, even at my best, I still need a Savior!
I left that gathering earlier this week motivated to do my best and to be grateful that, even at my best, as Bill and Gloria Gaither once wrote, “God sent His Son, they called Him, Jesus!”
How about you?
Enjoy!
David
One Verse
“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 106:1 ESV
Two Quotes
Doug Stringer
Today is Doug Stringer’s birthday! Happy Birthday, my friend. dg
“…few qualities will make us stand out from the crowd like gratitude.” Doug Stringer

David Brainerd
David Brainerd wrote this sentence in his diary on April 20, 1742, which was his 24th birthday. He died of tuberculosis in Jonathan Edwards’ house just over five years later. As a missionary to Native Americans, Brainerd excelled. His journal, edited and published posthumously by Edwards, has been credited with being an influential document during the Second Great Awakening in America. dg
“I hardly ever so longed to live to God, and to be altogether devoted to him; I wanted to wear out my life in his service, and for his glory.” David Brainerd

Four Observations
One Simple Question a Friend Can Always Ask - by Michael Kelley at MichaelKelley.co
Excerpt: “Friendship is work. It is costly. You have to work at it. And to that end, there is one, simple question you can always ask a friend: How would you like me to pray?” 👉 Read More…
Steven Curtis Chapman, the Hope of Heaven, and Turning to God in Loss - by Randy Alcorn at EPM.org
Excerpt: “If you want to see something powerful, go back in time to the Larry King Live interview with the Chapmans and three of their older children. What a marvelous thing it was for the family to agree to this interview instead of hiding from all the questions that were being asked. The gospel went far and wide through this 16 years ago, and has ever since as people see it for the first time or rewatch it. It certainly brought fresh tears to me.” 👉 Read More…
Why We Sing - by The Worship Initiative at TheWorshipInitiative.com
Excerpt: “Singing is a natural response of a heart that has tasted, seen, and savored the goodness and glory of God. We sing, not because there is some insufficiency within God that needs our praise and delight, but because our souls were made to see and savor Him and it is only in doing so that we truly know the utter satisfaction that comes from communion with God. Singing is one of the means by which we experience that joy and delight.” 👉 Read More…
