Welcome to this issue of one24worship - Because worship is a daily lifestyle, one 24-hour day at a time, not just a weekly event.
The one24worship Newsletter is a weekly offering of inspiration, ideas, and insights landing in your email inbox every Thursday... 1-2-4: one verse/passage, two quotes, and four observations at a time.
“Read the dead guys!”
This short sentence was spoken to me many years ago by a mentor friend of mine. His reply was in response to a question I had asked about which Christian books he thought a young man ought to read, in addition to the Bible, of course.
His counsel to “read the dead guys” has proven to bear much fruit over the years.
Two of the “dead guys” that I still read periodically are Dave Busby and A. W. Tozer.
Busby was a dear friend of mine who passed away over 25 years ago now. (That’s still hard for me to believe!)
More a preacher than an author, Dave’s books, like The Heart of The Matter, have continued to impact me profoundly, just as his short and “full-of-God” life did.
Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting A. W. Tozer. He died in 1963. Tozer’s third book, published in 1948, The Pursuit of God, has become a cherish standard of Christian literature among Christ-followers.
Quotes from the writings of both Busby and Tozer are included in this edition of one24worship. These men - like so many others of “the dead guys” - have help shape and fuel my own passion for the worship of God.
I hope these small nuggets presented here today might encourage the same in you.
Enjoy!
David

Four Observations
What Is the Great Commission? - by Tim Bertolet at ABWE.org
Excerpt: “The content of our teaching must begin with the gospel. The King’s commands to ‘go’ and ‘make disciples’ means that we are calling people to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, to receive forgiveness of sins, and to experience redemption in Christ. If we are not teaching that Jesus is Savior and Lord and calling people to faith and repentance, we are not fulfilling the Great Commission and we have no business going into all the world.” 👉 Read More…
How to Be Thankful in All Things - by Billy Graham at BillyGraham.org
Excerpt: “Nothing turns us into bitter, selfish, dissatisfied people more quickly than an ungrateful heart. And nothing will do more to restore contentment and the joy of our salvation than a true spirit of thankfulness.” 👉 Read More…
A Challenge from A.W. Tozer on Worship and Entertainment - by Chuck Lawless at ChuckLawless.com
Excerpt: “Oh, brother or sister, God calls us to worship, but in many instances we are in entertainment, just running a poor second to the theaters.” 👉 Read More…

CHORUS
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want / He leads me by still waters ‘til my fears are gone / Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death / O I know You are with me My Father, my Friend / Your goodness and mercy will follow me all of my days… / I know by Your still waters I’m safe.”

I enjoyed reading the newsletter. It is full of articles, that help with whatever anyone could be facing in life. The main thing is, God never slumbers nor sleeps, He is ready at all times to listen to all our problems and praises. I am currently reading a book by Billy Graham, called Nearing Home. He also included the words Life, Faith, and Finishing Well on the cover of this book and the verse, "But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." Acts 20:24 (ESV) This book has given me a new outlook on the many issues we face as we get older. The main theme is to finish well, regardless of we may face.
One of God's promises to us, is in Psalm 23:2b "He leads me beside the still waters". What a great promise. Still waters mean a lot, in all things, we face in our lives each day. I loved the song "Still Waters" in your article.
I also noticed, how still the water is in the picture of you and your friend while your fishing. Behind you to the right, the water is so still it looks like glass, but on the other side of the boat, the water is running rapidly over the rocks. Fish love still waters, so do I.
