Welcome to this issue of one24worship - Because worship is a daily lifestyle, one 24-hour day at a time, not just a weekly event.
The one24worship Newsletter is a weekly offering of inspiration, ideas, and insights... 1-2-4: one verse, two quotes, and four observations at a time.
For the past several months, I’ve been singing the song which is included in our Four Observations this week. It’s Aaron Williams’ song, “Abide.”
I hope you enjoy Mission House’s rendition, which also features Aaron, Jess Ray, and Taylor Leonhardt. dg
I first became familiar with the song while studying John 15:1-5 (Jesus’ teaching about the vine and the branches), when I heard Christy Nockels’ recording back in 2022.
What captured my attention right away was not just the chorus, but rather the repeated line in each of the verses, with their consistent confession, “I depend on You. I depend on You.”
It seems to me that receiving from Jesus and depending upon Jesus is at the very heart of abiding in Jesus. To abide in Jesus is to receive from and depend upon Jesus… for everything!
“…for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5b
How would you go about defining abiding in Jesus?
Enjoy!
David

Four Observations
The Importance of Music in Worship - from Church.org
Excerpt: “One of the most powerful roles of music in worship is its ability to help us express our emotions. Music allows us to channel these feelings in a way that words alone often cannot, whether it’s joy, sorrow, gratitude, or reflection. In a worship service, the music guides the congregation through different emotional states, from uplifting praise songs that spark joy to slower, somber hymns that encourage reflection and peace.” 👉 Read More…
Alistair Begg warns rise of 'consumer' worship eroding biblical engagement in congregational life - by Leah MarieAnn Klett, Assistant Editor at TheChristianPost.com
Excerpt: “‘Congregational worship is not just a get-together. It begins with God, not with myself in my need,’ he told the audience, adding that when the focus shifts from God’s Word to personal experience or entertainment, something vital is lost.” 👉 Read More…
FOR WORSHIP LEADERS: The State of Worship Leading in America - by Bill Kirkwood at WorshipLeader.com
Excerpt: “One of the great blessings of the twenty-first century church is the presence of several Christian schools offering degrees in worship and church music. Students graduate with a good education in foundations of worship, leadership, musical skills, and worship technology. However, the vast majority of worship planners and leaders in thousands of churches do not have this formal education. Like me, they learned how to lead by watching others lead.” 👉 Read More…
