Welcome to this issue of one24worship - Because worship is a daily lifestyle, one 24-hour day at a time, not just a weekly event.
The one24worship Newsletter is a weekly offering of inspiration, ideas, and insights landing in your email inbox every Thursday... 1-2-4: one verse, two quotes, and four observations at a time.
24 YEARS AGO & 24 HOURS AGO
I was finishing breakfast with a group of men from my church at a Cracker Barrel in San Antonio 24 years ago today when we heard the news that an airplane had flown into one of the Twin Towers in New York City, NY.
Most of my generation can recall exactly where we were 24 years ago today when we heard the news of the horrific events that followed.
And last night, as I was preparing for a Wednesday evening Worship Service, 24 hours ago, I heard the news that Charlie Kirk had been killed by an assassination.
And many of a younger generation will remember where they were when they heard this news.
Within hours yesterday, social media blew up with messages of tributes and heartbreak.
An excerpt from a Facebook post by Doug Stringer yesterday afternoon said this…
“Regardless of one’s personal views and preferences, it is heartbreaking and tragic to see. We are witnessing what happens when public discourse loses civility, when disagreement turns into disdain, and when differing opinions provoke hatred.” Doug Stringer1
Into circumstances not dissimilar to these of 24 years ago and 24 hours ago, Jesus spoke these words…
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 ESV
In our world, while we will all experience moments of trial and seasons of tribulation, there is peace available in the person of Jesus Christ.
Whether 24 years ago or 24 hours ago, especially in moments of heart-break, we can take heart because ultimately, He has and He will overcome the world.
David

Article Excerpt: “More than half a century later, ‘A Band Called LoveSong’ frames those stories within the broader sweep of American religious history.
